As we all know, (or should know) asbestos is a very harmful substance. Asbestos used to be used in materials for fireproofing roofing, flooring, heat insulation,
and in a lot of basement construction.
Although it is no longer used in buildings and homes, you can still be
exposed to it if you are working on older buildings, which is what happened to
one of my very close friends.

“I was working in my Nana’s home with my Dad,
doing a bunch of home improvements for her after she lost her husband. We
started working on the vinyl flooring
and as we were pulling it up I noticed that asbestos had been used in the basement sub-floor. My Dad and I
stopped working right away and called in professional asbestos removal workers.”
Luckily my friend knew what asbestos looks like; otherwise he and
his Dad could have been exposed to it. If you are working on a home that was
built before 1980, it might be a good idea to sit this one out and let the pros
handle it; it’s better to be safe than sorry!
