Everyone has
their own preference in style and the size of the tile depends on what the
owner likes. Mixing larger tiles with smaller tiles can make the floor more
unique. It has become more common for owners to purchase larger marble tiles than smaller ceramic tiles
for their home. Even more common to mix mosaic
tiles around the boarder or in the middle of the floor to add creativity to the
design. A different size trowel, to spread the cement, is used for different
size tiles.
Mosaic
tiles are small tiles that are more commonly used as an accent tile or a
boarder tile. Mosaics are usually
more expensive than a ceramic tiles and cost as much as most marble tiles. Mosaic tiles can have many different colours, be different sizes, have
a picture on them, and come in sheets of 12” by 12”. This does not mean smaller
tiles are better than larger tiles.
Smaller tiles, especially
mosaic need more grout to fill the
in the small gaps between tiles. The bigger the tile, the harder to install
which also means more expensive. Most people enjoy looking at less grout lines
and with a larger tile there will be less line in the floor. Large tiles almost
make a small room look bigger, which is beneficial for most bathrooms. Large
tiles require the concrete subfloor
to be perfectly level otherwise it can result in the tile cracking or breaking
in the future.
